In December 2017 I attended an Avalanche Geeks Level 1 Avalanche Fundamentals training course. This was an excellent course to learn the basics of planning and travelling through avalanche terrain. I came away from the course with a much greater understanding of avalanche theory and practiced a lot of skills on the hill with like minded people.
This level of avalanche awareness is an essential component of the Winter International Mountain Leader assessment where candidates are expected to have a very good understanding of the snow pack and how to co-ordinate and train people in the use of Transceiver, Probe and Shovel.
The Level 1 Avalanche Training provided by Avalanche Geeks covered an array of topics from Avalanche Anatomy, snow pack assessment, planning and travelling through avalanche terrain. The course also covers the use of an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe to locate buried persons.
I have placed some useful Avalanche Planning Tools and information on my Favourite Sites page.
